Art meets Science @ ESA’s European Space Operations Centre

Together with the Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research (GSI) and the Hessian Center for Artificial Intelligence (hessian.AI), ESA’s ESOC mission operations centre is joining the 2022 Artist in Science Residence (AiSR) programme.

The programme, run by »Kultur einer Digitalstadt« in ESOC’s home city of Darmstadt, Germany, will see three artist residencies carried out, each in cooperation with one of Darmstadt’s leading scientific institutes.

The AiSR is aimed at artists of all disciplines. The scholarship holders will have their own studio at Rosenhöhe for the six-week residency and – depending on the possibilities of the cooperating institute – a workplace at the respective research institution.

“We are keen to participate in such a unique initiative that brings together art and science and very much look forward to the results of this multidisciplinary project.” -- ESA

The aims of the programme are to provide artists with access to scientific institutions, promote sustainable exchange between science and art, further develop independent artistic research, and present and publish the projects carried out during the AiSR.

»Kultur einer Digitalstadt e.V.« (KeD) is a platform for artistic research, interdisciplinary discussions and cultural networking in the Digitalstadt Darmstadt. The project addresses creative artists and those interested in culture from Darmstadt, the surrounding region and beyond.

More information and FAQs on how to apply for the Artist in Science Residence programme can be found on the »Kultur einer Digitalstadt« website in English and German.
